Model Aircraft Holidays
Specialist model aircraft holidays are far and few between in the UK. Here at Heath Farm Holiday Cottages you’ll find the perfect retreat in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. You can fly your electric model aircraft to your hearts content. Set in 70 acres of woodland and meadows you’ll find the perfect paradise. It’s equipped with a custom model aircraft strip on the meadow. There is also a modeling room where you can repair and store your equipment. The flying strip is open from Mid April through till the end of September.
The flying strip
The flying strip can be accessed by car on a dry day. Simply drive around the perimeter alongside the main road. Follow the far avenue down which eventually leads to the flying strip. There’s even a viewing chair at the edge of the flying strip. The strip is regularly mowed by David and Brian, our woodman. David and his grandson are both avid model aircraft enthusiasts. Their knowledge of the local wind conditions and conditions is worth finding out. You can to view a map of the farm on our website to find it’s location.
The modeling room
We have a purpose built modeling room where you can store and repair your aircraft. There’s work benches for repairs and racking to store your planes. Plenty of lighting and electric points ensure easy use. The modeling room is a safe storage area under lock and key. When the weather conditions don’t permit flying there’s ample space to work on your equipment. Heating is also supplied.
Our five star rated cottages sleep two to four adults. Minimum stay is 2 nights although we recommend at least a week to enjoy all that’s on offer. It’s also far more affordable the longer you stay. The cottages are all rated as gold standard by Visit England. Each cottage is beautifully furnished and features custom made ironwork. Extensive use of hardwood furniture and fittings throughout. The cottages are centered around a stunning brick courtyard. Fabulous views of the Cotswold countryside can be seen through the magnificent archway in the courtyard. The cottages all have open fireplaces with unlimited wood. We supply picnic hampers, ideal for taking out on a flying day in the meadow.
Peace and quiet
Don’t worry if you’re not a model aircraft enthusiast! Our miniature airstrip is located well away from the cottages, protected behind beech hedges and native woodlands. It’s part of our wildflower meadow, and is completely unobtrusive. We only allow electric aircraft because petrol ones are noisy. David and his grandson can be found flying their planes on summer evenings when the wind conditions are right, but if you didn’t know they were there you would never notice them…
