Have you ever foraged for delicious wild foods before? Would you like to learn what is in season that can be foraged safely with a little care, to supplement your diet?
Come along to Heath Farm this September to be guided around the beautiful private estate and it’s woodland by Lizzy (as featured in Country Living Magazine) who will take you on a wander to seek hedgerow, pasture and woodland edibles that are full of surprising Autumn flavours!
This renovated old pig farm has been transformed into a 70 acre wildlife oasis with over 40,000 trees being planted over the past 5 decades. Virtually all the land is now set aside forestry, wild wildflower meadows and orchard teeming with wildlife. A huge amount of conservation work has been undertaken to create this wildlife haven and it's the perfect setting for foraging thorough the year. Further information about our conservation work can be found on our Green Tourism page.
We will be looking for wild fruits, herbs, mushrooms and plants that are all around us and teaching you key identification features/preferred habitats to give a good introduction to foraging for your own wild food journey going forwards.
We will return to enjoy a some foraged makes and bakes brought along by your host, to show how easy it can be to incorporate your finds into everyday meals and cooking, and Heath Farm spring water & wild cordials to compliment the food.
We will be covering good foraging practice, preservation techniques and what species to look out for in the coming months after your foraging session with Lizzy.
There will also be the opportunity to do some wild swimming in the lake, if you're feeling brave.
You may wish to bring a camera, notepaper, something to drink as we walk and ensure you have sturdy comfortable footwear/weather appropriate clothing for the wander. (Also, swimwear/towel if taking up offer of wild swimming)
